WeChat themselves have used their own functions to promote the launch of their WeChat Wallet in South Africa. The experiential event booked the entire first floor of the Multichoice City in Randburg, equipping the area with tons of engaging and innovative content in the form of games, competitions and even a money booth and a maze!
- A special money booth offered a game in which participant would try grab as much money as possible as notes swooped around them before the timer (10 seconds) ran out. After which, the money would be counted and loaded into their WeChat wallet once they scanned the relevant QR code.
- During the event, a huge maze in the shape of a QR code was set up. Participants of the maze could play a variety of offline games that would then be rewarded in digital money, i.e. on WeChat wallet.
This online-to-offline (O2O) model resulted in thousands of downloads of the WeChat wallet, with WeChat’s brand awareness in South Africa being significantly enhanced.
